Riddle me this any of you arm-chair-engineers. Wouldn't the scoop be more effective and bring in less water if placed at the back of the hood and faced the windshield?

Wouldn't it would take the air coming down off the windshield and run it right into the scoop like the mid-70's Trans-Ams?

Just keep in mind that the top of the air box is not where you'd want to tie in... that would bypass the filter. I think you'd get most of the benefits of a cold air intake by simply positioning a scoop over the airbox, but not dealing with the extra work and hassle of trying to tie it in and compromising the integrity of the factory air box, etc. The scoop would still provide a path to cooler air, while also giving the hot air under the hood a chance to escape. In the event that water gets into the scoop, it would just harmlessly run down on top of the air box on its way to the ground.

FWIW I used to make some "Ram Air Blinkers" I would put mesh on the blinkers and route a tube to the airbox. Did a good job, but also water was an issue. This was in a VW>

if you reversed the intake hose to the bottom of the air box then you could route a scoop off the top. doesn't the river raider system work like this? there's enough room to route a pipe stright down inside the engine bay to near the axle. just check for clearence and you WILL need to make/buy a bi-pass filter/valve for water crossing. other wise you'll hydro lock. what about relocating the intake to where the vent thingy is in front of the wind shield? what's that for anyway????????

Dont know....
Yes...Still worrying about a hydrolock situation
Dont know.....

UPDATE:
The 90 degree elbow did NOT work. Same situations as before-- stoops down tooooooo low much like in this shot from before.

So for now the fully ruberized one is back on again..............

May just be time to start considering entirely different routing scenarious that you guys have mentioned
