Tuners
Looking for advice on a Smart Chip flashpaq 3875 tuner for my JK. Older model I know but wondering how everyone did with this model? Is it worth getting even for $100? Or should I just save a few pennies and get the newer model?
I've run the 3875 since I bought my 2010. It's a little slower and doesn't have color....but it works just fine and hasn't failed me yet. Make sure it's compatible with your jeep, the 3875 doesn't tune all of the new jeeps.
Thanks yea mine is a 2010 think the owner said this came off his 2009 but is defiantly willing to let me try it on mine to make sure it sync up first. I don't mind that it is not color but just wanted to make sure the newer ones don't offer added benefits this one don't for a slightly higher price tag. I mainly just wanted it to increase some HP which might be minimal but then to tune it when crawling.
It won't increase any noticeable HP unless you frequently hit the rev limiter (which you can increase with the tuner). I adjusted my tune a couple times, turned off the TPMS, and adjust tire size frequently.....I can't see paying a ton more for one with color. I never remember to adjust to the crawl tune, usually too busy doing sway bars and airing down.
On buying a used one- it should say "returned to stock" or "ready to program". If you plug it in and it starts saying speedo adjusted or tire size adjusted then you'll have to undo those options on his jeep.

Okay good things to look for thanks! Did you get any noticeable mpg change? I drive a Diesel truck most of the time until I got the JK so really I'm not concerned with mpg but if I gain a 1/2 to 1 mpg that be okay too!
I just purchased some discos Friday along with my hood hilift mount to put my hilift jack on. Didn't get discos on yet but going to do that tomorrow and go look at this tuner which guy has five minutes from my house. Changing to the correct tires will be good my mph is off by about 5mph due to 35" tires.
There wasn't a noticeable change in gas mileage because I keep my speedo updated when I change tires. I've been running 35's and recently purchased stock tires to burn down as daily driver tires- that's the great thing I've found to increase gas mileage.

You'll find reviews from people saying how great the tunes are, how much more power they got. Best mod ever. Uh-huh. Wasn't my experience. If you look at the dyno charts, it's like 5-8 HP down at the rpm's where most of us will be driving. You may feel a little something, but it ain't no instant v-8. For me with my 3.8 auto, shift points are what I notice most when switching between stock and 35/37" tire sizes. Never got around to trying any mileage tunes.
And a second vote for verifying that it is unlocked before you purchase. Plug it in and check before you hand over the cash!!

It was worth getting the tunes to be able experience them for myself, but they're not worth the extra cost in my opinion.
