Using 4 jackstands.
Really? That's just downright dangerous. But it might explain a pair of jack stands that are rated for 2-1/2 tons that I received for "free" with a floor jack I bought that look downright wimpy compared to my other jack stands that are a couple decades old.
How you are supporting your jeep is also a consideration. 3 ton stands should be good for supporting by the axle. If supporting by the frame use at least 6 ton. Either way do not extend the stand all the way.
Otherwise disregard the noise about frame vs axle, and if they weren't meant to extend all the way they wouldn't be made to.
I already did several projects (e.g. changing the suspension, brake pads, etc.) where I held my Jeep using four jacks either by the frame or suspension without any issues.
Mark's advice about the tires is great. Another thing I do is shaking the Jeep a bit (just enough) to see if anything moves before I get under it.

That doesn't make any sense at all, lbs are lbs, the weight is the same if they are under the frame or axle, or skidplate or wherever. the only way it would see less weight is if they were higher and the opposite wheels where on, pushing more weight onto the wheels.

Man. Since I lifted my jeep with 3.5"'lift and 35's, I haven't needed jack stands to get under it for anything. Haha. Changing the oil? Just get the creeper and roll under it. Lol. Cleaning mud chunks. Just get on the old clothes and drag the water hose under it. Now getting the window clean and putting up the top is different. I usually have to climb in to wash the front window when I have the top back.
