The vents are properly called exhausters. Every vehicle has them and they are to allow the doors to close without having to slam them. If you have a soft top only Jeep, you will be ok covering them. With hardtop installed you will have to slam the doors really hard. My advice is to NOT cover them.

....and I always thought it was to alow the flow-thru ventilation to work, which is a pretty important feature.

That's a fart discharge vent, cover at your passengers own risk.

I think ultimately you'll be sorrier you removed your spare than you covered your vent. The first flat you have.............

We need to start a poll about who has actually had to use the spare to fix a flat on the street. I see an lots of brand new looking spares on the back of vehicles .. unless of course they are rotated in.

Who cares about getting a flat on the street?? That's what AAA is for.

You really should care about getting a flat on the trail. You DO go on the trail, don't you?

A lot of people don't rotate in their spares. There's at least one poll on this site about it:

Personally, I'm in the camp that believe tires have limited life - especially in sunny climes like Arizona. IMO leaving the spare on the back just to look pretty and rot is a big waste of money.
