Default Volant Exhaust System

This is the Volant JK Wrangler dual outlet polished T304 SS exhaust system.

It is about as pretty as a replacement rear muffler can be, polished staimnless body and pipes, large dual wall muffler tips, I was going to paint everything but the tips engine enamel black, but what the heck, I'll run it like this a while. It is plug and play with the factory pipe and muffler hangers, all the welds look pretty dang good, and of course being stainless it should last a long time.
We always hear how the dual outlet mufflers have a greater drop in power, and that may be true but at least Volant has used 2 1/4" pipes leading to the tips.

Installation was a snap, I spent more time looking for the deep wall 11/16" socket than I did putting the thing on. Slip the passenger side mount into the rubber hanger after shooting both of them with a little WD40. Then connect the factory exhaust pipe to the muffler, and work the other hanger (also WD40 treated) into place. Tighten the muffler clamps down tight and go for a ride.

Cranking it up for the first time gives a nice little growl, and then it's really pretty quiet at idle, a satisfying low rumble coming out of the pipes.
The sound is never really obtrusive, but you hear it for sure, on the gas to 5K on the tach is pretty sweet. Every now and then you get a little burble out of it on deceleration, but no popping or backfiring at all.
Heavy throttle at low rpms gives a nice little rumble, it's actually fun to play with the gas for a change. I'm sure that'll do wonders for the gas mileage!

I was amazed at the increase in low rpm driveability when I took the muffler off. Been driving mufflerless for several days and surprisingly found a substantial improvement in throttle responce. The Volant maintains this, with out any of the racket a straight pipe gives us. I wouldn't say there is neccesarily an increase in power or torque, but when you hit the gas in 5th at 2100rpm the Jeep goes now.
The torque curve would have to be described as smoother and deeper, running in 4th from 1200 rpm up to 4K was without a hiccup. 3rd gear at 1500 rpm in the neighborhood rolls along pleasingly without drama, just a little rumble.

Driving it late tonight was amazing in how I could keep the rpms under 2.5K and still outrun traffic. On level ground 6th at 1300rpm easily maintains speed, and even exhibits a little pickup. And it's smooth smooth smooth!
Maybe the computer's adapting to the new found exhaust flow. It certainly is nice to be able to precisely control the engine and throttle input, now that I can hear what's going on.

Tomorrow is the acid test, I'll be doing a 80 mile run on the interstate and secondary roads with hills, we'll see how 6th pulls at 65mph on a well known route.

Ran my little 80 mile commute with the JK today.
The verdict is that the Volant exhaust did increase low end torque slightly, the Rubicon was happy in 6th at 55-65mph more than even with no muffler. I'd still say that most of the improvement over the stock muffler is to be found below 2k, or over 4k.
It does wind higher and faster than it ever did before, comparable to or better than no muffler, but driveability at low rpms is the main difference in real use. Throttle responce is a lot better, and the low end is glass smooth.

It looks nice but I think those tips are an inch too big. Get a plate like that one Hemi did and it would be awesome.
