Default Warn Powerplant Thermal Switch issues

Just an FYI for Powerplant owners. I went to use my air compressor the other day and it wouldn't work. I couldn't get the winch or compressor to work, just a flashing red light on the remote. I talked to Warn and they are having an issue with the thermal switch in the motor. They told me how to by-pass it so I could use the winch and will get back to me when they find a solution.

So for now I'm on the "burn you winch motor up for any reason and they'll replace it for free list".

Can you post the instructions for the bypass? Also, did you remember the name of the person at Warn that you talked to?

Thanks.

Sorry, I've already forgot the guys name.

There are 2 wires coming out of the back of the motor, simply jump these wires and it bypasses the thermal switch.

Did they give you any indication of how long this is going on, manufacturing dates affected, etc.? By the way, I think you should call back and confirm your "warranty" statement since you don't have a name or anything in writing.

I spent a whole day talking to warn. They walked me through how to diagnose the problem and then several phone calls back and forth discussing how to correct it. At first we were going to replace the thermal switch, and then the whole motor. Finally we decided on bypassing the thermal switch until a more perminate solution is found. Excellent customer service, I have no doubt that I am covered. They didn't have a time frame on when it may me resolved.

Sounds like Warn needs to include these directions with each new winch. A powerplant is an expensive winch from a company that many regard as "the best". I would hate to see their reputation wither. Everyone can't fire up a cell phone and call Warn when they need a recovery. Carrying a pre made jumper sounds like good insurance. No one wants to burn up a winch, but if a cold winch won't operate then you need a jumper.

Any other reported cases of this issue? Does "waiting on a better solution" mean you did not agree to their terms of supplying a new part with shipping? Or are you indicating that Warn said this was a bigger issue than just your hardware?

That's why I was trying to get an idea how widespread the issue is. Also, for the poster did it ever work for you or did it stop in middle of using it? What were the circumstances of the failure.

Winch had worked fine numerous times. Went to use the air compressor one day and nothing.... It hadn't been run for a couple of weeks prior. We decided to use the jumper, no need to go to the trouble of changing the motor only to have the possibility of the same problem again.

Default Had the same issue today...

Went to re-spool the winch line today...just in case I need to use it with the weather getting bad. Pulled out the cable by hand... attached it to a tractor...went to pull and nothing! How absolutely disappointing. Red light flashes...can spool out not in. Did you ever get a real resolution to the issue?? The thing should be ready to go at the drop of a hat.
