Default Warn winch brake durm

Has anyone had a brake problem with the Warn winch power plant hp. Once I ingage the winch lever in ingage mode I can still pull the rope out. My understanding is that once it is tighten( ingaged) you shouldn't be able to pull the rope out. yet when comming out of a store here mine is laying out about 10 feet.

if you are refering to the lever on the driver side and NOT the switch on the front, when it is locked into the spool position, no, you should not be able to pull the line out. if it is still free spooling, try to make sure that the lever is fully engaged (should be parallel to the lenght of your jeep) and try it again.

Default warn winch

Spoke with a warn Rep, they suggested I remove the spool and if its damage bad enough it will fall off or out, I'' try this several times.
Thanks for the reply
