What he means is that you shouldn't be preocupied with the warranty. I think that since you were aluding to an exhaust, he took it that you were seeking more power.
If factory parts fail, it is because they are weak and need to be replaced with upgraded aftermarket parts.
If you want to replace failed parts with the same weaker factory parts, it is easy to find take-off parts used from people who have upgraded.
The only thing I was really concerned about was engine or transmission failure. This is extremely rare, and it is unlikely that the modifications you plan to do would cause the engine or transmission to fail. Even if they do, you can find take-off transmissions for around $600 and take-off engines for around $1200 from people who have upgraded to Hemi engines.
I'm having a warranty issue right now. When I bought my Jeep, I asked three dealers and called the Chrysler corporate 800# to find out if my particular lift and tires would void my warranty. I got a resounding "Not at all! We won't cover those parts, but it will not void your warranty!"
Well, my dealer warrantied a u-joint, then 3 weeks later (because they didn't fix the real problem) it broke again and took out the other side and yokes, and now they tell me it's not covered. Can't give me a reason, and won't tell me that in writing...just "Nope, not covered." They tried to say I hit something and should call my insurance co. My adjuster looked at it and said "We don't cover mechanical failure, and there's no evidence of a collision." Jeep doesn't care, they still won't fix it.
My advice? Take pictures of EVERYTHING and document every single thing.
Oh...and get a good attorney :-)
