I won't buy them again for the reasons stated in your post. In the below pic, look at the front driver's side tire. See how the second inner "band" of tread looks like every other block is alternating between "light" and "dark"? That is severe cupping, which seems to accentuate the out of balance and harmonics feelings when driving. You can see the same effect on the passenger side tire also. I don't know if this is a symptom or a cause, all I know is it is an unpleasant to have spent s fair chunk of change on a set of tires that look like this at 5k miles. When I asked the tire shop about this, they said I needed to rotate more often. Fine, I rotated them and while the out of balance feeling went away for now, they roar like crazy now

Will be looking for a different brand when I go to 37's. To the OP, I hope this helps you in your decision making.
Yes thank you, you just cleared up a theory I've had from the time that good year got rid of the first mtr and put these ones on the market.

My next set will be Pit Bulls.... Just the look is enough for me to buy them
I like the look of the m16, there's a full size Chevy up the street from me that runs them and the look good. How's the balance on them did you need a lot of weight to balance them?
I agree with your thought about the pit bulls but we can't go on like alone lol

over the years I’ve run a lot of diff kinds of “off road” tires
bfg at’s and mt’s, dick cepek mud countrys, hankook dyno pro atms and mt’s, treadwright mud dawgs, cooper discover stt, mickey thompson baja claws and kumho road venture mts

the only ones i ever bough more than one set of the same kind were the hankook rto3 mt’s and the kumho road venture mt’s

the dyne pro atm’s lasted forever but weren't aggressive enough for my needs
the bfg at’s chipped out quickly on caliche roads and I’ve had like 8 pairs of those on work trucks
the treadwrights did awesome for a while, then got really loud and eventually failed internally
the baja claws wore down very quickly
the cooper stt’s were ok but nothing to write home about, awesome shoulder tread
i like the bfg mts but didn’t like the price per mile i got out of them

currently on my second set of kumho road venture mt’s (10 ply)
bought 6 of them (3 for each side bc they’re directional) so i rotate all the time
run them at 35 psi in town and 15-20 in sand/rocks

I actually like the old mtr's, and had no problems with them. I think the main problem with the current mtr's is the assymetrical tread pattern. I believe it because of more and less weight with the different tread patterns causes too much irregularity. I think they are a cool looking tire, but a horrible design.

Agreed. My old tires were the old style GY MTRs I got used off craigslist for dirt cheap, they lasted for two years and exhibited no uneven wear nor were they all that noisy.

they actually balance well, I have only managed to throw them out once so far and that was last weekend when i snapped a front shaft and was spinning them hard while high centered.....stupid and expensive but i made it eventually with the help of my winch..haha

anyway i had them balanced after the repairs were made and only the one on the damaged shaft side required a lot of work

good luck in your decision, i know a ton of guys running Toyos and they are all happy, i just like the different look

GY MTR/K. I love mine, won't consider anything else. I do also like the Mickey Thompson MT.

I don't recommend the BFG -- Weak side wall. I've seen many get punctured while wheeling. I also wouldn't do the Nitto MT because they're too heavy. Might be fine if you have aftermarket Axles (PR44) and stronger shafts. Love the way they look though.
