Unless you have some weird one off model you have 3.73 gears so no carrier needed!

Last night I checked my gear ratio and turns out I already have 3.71 in it! Now my question is, all I need is the ring and pinion for both the front and rear axle? Also, is switching from 3.71 to 4.88's on 35 going to make a huge difference? Will this help with fuel economy? I drive about half city and half Highway.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Need R&P and Master Install kits for front and rear axle. Going 4.88 will be a noticeable difference and you'll see a lot more pep in your step. You will see an increase in economy depending how light your right foot is.

Give us a shout anytime for forum pricing on gears/install kits!

Quick question, if I am bringing it to a mechanic to get the install done will I still need to supply the master install kit to them? Or just the ring and pinion? I feel like if this is something they do they won't need some of the minor parts... Just the ring and pinion correct?

Thank you everyone for your help!!

I would talk to your installer, if he does gear changes regularly he may have the kits in stock. I supplied gears and master install kits, they would have ordered everything but at a higher cost. (labor did not change if I supplied or he did) I also had to change out my carrier in the front and elected to do the rear so, I figured it would be better to start fresh. If he is confident in re-using your bearings you could go with the minor install kit.

X2, may as well pull all the bearings and races and have a basically complete new differential.

My suggestion get quality gears and a quality full master install kit. I got my gear kit from Nitro Gears and it destroyed my entire rear housing when it failed after only a 3000 Miles. this is one area when paying up for name brand parts will save you lots of head aches.

I'm not sure what you mean by "name brand parts". Nitro Gears are a very respected brand and are as good as any other. Almost all gear failures can be attributed to a bad install.
