The main reason I didn't really want to do it was to avoid damage to my tailgate, but after reading what everyone said I feel fairly confident that it will be fine as long as I make sure its mounted tight with the bumpstops and dosent rattle around. Thx again and will post some picks when I get it all mounted up
I should mention. I'm in and out of my tailgate every day with miscellaneous items. Luggage, FedEx, name it. Daily opening, off roading on Colorado, bad washed out roads...... Still no issues. 24k miles on it now, went on at 8k miles.

I was in the same boat as you. I bought wheels on cl that were like new but he only had 4 and I went to 34" tires. I didn't want to buy a new wheel and tire for the spare so I bought the cheapest 34" tire I could find and mounted it on the stock rim and it sits in my garage unless I go wheeling. I have the poison spyder tramp stamp with the plate holder, license plate delete and plugs for my tailgate and put the spare in the back when I go wheeling and strap it down. VERY happy with the setup and I don't have a ton of money in a wheel and tire for my spare...I have the right height tire to put on if I have a flat on the trails and all is good.

^^^^ Same here, been running a 35 TOYO on stock carrier for 6 years, 75,000 miles including Moab. No issues either but I am in the market for a bumper and tire carrier just because I'm afraid my luck may run out soon... (knock on wood)

If you do trails where you drop off ledges you might want to build a rear stinger.
