Default What does this heat shield protect? Am I missing a bolt?

Was trying to track down the heat shield rattle and found this. Was wondering what it protected and what size nut goes on it. Never had to bring in the jeep for them to look at whatever it was just clock spring and brakes. So makes me wonder why the bolt went missing

Looks like the shield is protecting the starter from the heat of the catalytic converter.

Here is a picture showing how it's secured. There is a push-on nut on the stud.

The heat shield you've got there protects your alternator from excessive heat. I cut that taco shell to pieces when I replaced my starter but ensured that I put the shield back in place and used HVAC foil tape you re-seal the shell.

Make sure to put it back, the heat will kill your starter, not a lot of room to breathe in there.
