No matter what your job, make sure you get a spouse who is a real partner and helps you make wise financial decisions. My wife is bascially the family CEO and I consider myself lucky to marry someone relatively frugal, compared to previous women in my life!

Here's a question. What is considered "great pay" in our time? I know what I make and it doesn't seem like or feel like what it should be. Everybody has a number. So I'll start, I think $250k/ year would be ideal. I'm not at that level, but busting my ass to get there.
after that it gets worse
i don't kind paying my fair share of taxes but when you really bust your ass and work really hard you really get screwed on taxes!

I'd say good income is 2x the median price of a new home in the area in which you live.
Nationally, $250,000 put you in the top 2%, and about $370,000 put you in the top 1%.
However, $370,000 in Montana gives you a lot more freedom than $370,000 in Southern California.

I agree. We make less than 120 here but we live quite well for our area.
