17". that's what most JK came with and it's a good size. there are a lot of tire options for a 17 and with a 35"-37" tire, it will give you what you need and without too much sidewall flex.

it depends on what size tire you wish to run... if you plan on wheeling alot you want to make sure you have plenty of side wall with 32s 17in wheels are good i run 35s on 18 inch wheels and would not recommend going 20inch wheels unless u are going to run 37s unless you dont do a lot of wheelin

What WOL said. 17" will give you an abundance of choices for wheels and tires. Unless you are wanting to go big, 17X8 wheels will work fine (good for 33" - 35" tires). If you want a little more tire you can drop to a 16" wheel and save a few bucks too (16X8 or 9 and 315/75/16 tires are good). Of course this is just my opinion. Hope that helps.

Some tires are only available for certain rim sizes as well. Keep that in mind. I want to run mud grapplers but the smallest rim a 35x12.5 will fit is a 17".
