Default Where to pack the doors when on the trail?!?

So the other day I was up driving around in the high country and I decided to take off my 4 doors. I took off the driver's side door and walked around to the back to put in behind the rear seats.

And what do you know? It doesn't fit! So, my question to all you out there is this - Where can the doors be stored/packed when I want to take them off on the trail? (I don't want the bouncing around and getting all bashed up)

In April I will be on the crew for the Arch Canyon Jeep Jamboree (A Mark Smith signature event) and I wanted the option to take the doors off while on the trail. I could leave them at home, but there isn't any way I'm driving 500 miles at 80 mph with the doors off! ;-)

So, any ideas?

One quick note - I still remember watching one of the Jeep videos they have online (the one about the A/C) and the people drop the top and take off the doors right in the middle of the trail. Where did they put the doors? On the side of the road?!?

HA! Nice one!!!! I do hate those darn mosquitos!

I wonder if there is a way to mount them to the rear tire? They have bike/ski racks for it, maybe a door rack too? Do you know if the rear doors fit in the back end? If so, maybe the doors could be mounted on the tire and the back doors can go in the back.

Or maybe I should just wait for soft doors to come out! Then I can take them off and fold them up!

Only option I know of is get a cable lock and lock them to a tree somewhere.

That might be good if you are doing a loop (and find a big tree that can't be cut down), but isn't a great solution when you are going from point A to point B.

Maybe I should just cut the doors in half!

some storage places may have daily rental spaces cheap, may be another option.

Well, for Arch Canyon, I'm leaning towards leaving the doors in the hotel room depending on the weather forecast.

Default four door rack

hey ammonm, try this. four door rack attached to reciever. rubber surfaces and tie-down straps from top back of rack to tie down points behind spare tire for tension support. figure out dimensions needed.

I usually wheel with my club and can trust to leave them against a tree. If I'm camping...in the tent, if I am in hotel.....in the hotel. As for taking off while driving and keeping in vehicle, I don't really like the idea since they would more than likely get damaged while on the trails no matter how good I think they are secured so I'll just leave them on and maybe pop the freedom tops off and stow them in the back instead.

good luck
