Where to pack the doors when on the trail?!?
Yeah, the doors aren't exactly lightweight. (I've taken them all off by myself) But I was thinking if I did make some kind of receiver rack for them it would need to mount in the hitch AND be right up against the rear tire. I'm sure they can be strapped down tight enough as to not rattle around. Heck, if I really wanted to I could weld on some door brackets to the rack and bolt the doors to it. Then they wouldn't go anywhere for sure!!
Ooooo, interesting design. Yes, something like that is what I was looking for! Too bad they don't have it for the JK (specifically the Unlimited). Although I really don't care of how it looks. I guess that is the price you pay!
Why would you want to carry around four very expensive doors on the back of your Jeep? I guess your idea of wheeling is different then mine. My first Jamboree was in the Catskills and I banged both bumpers and scraped the heck out of the bottom of my Jeep TJ. First off, 4 doors would stick out approximately 4 feet. That's allowing space between them. Cantilever the weight of 4 doors that far out and hit a few bumps and your trailer hitch or fancy hitch bumper will be pointing to the ground. These new JK doors are alot more complex then a TJ or YJ door. Power locks and windows and other crap inside wouldn't like all the jarring and bouncing. You would probaly bend the rear section of your frame too.
I got caught in a thunderstorm while on a trailride in my JK with only 300 miles on the clock and when I got back to the campground I simply pulled all the drain plugs including the spare tire and the jack which I missed (LOL) until a couple days later and the 2-3 inches of rain water all drained out and not a thing was harmed. I left my doors in many hotel rooms and many trailheads. I do throw a simple cable and padlock on them at a trailhead. You don't have to chain them to a tree. Two doors chained together is damn near impossible to carry without being highly noticed.
