Anyone running this combo? If so, any problems? What gearing upgrades to the 30?

I don't have 37's but I think I can help you a little bit.
First these are big tires for the Dana 30 if you intend to go offroad.
You will need to upgrade your C2's with gussets even with 35's. EVO makes a great gusset. Northridge4x4.com
Next you will need gears- 5.13 would be about right for 37's.
Then you will need to upgrade your axles to chrome moly. The dana 30 axles will still be small and you can break them if you get hard on the skinny pedal.
Also you will need driveshafts because you will have to lift it enough to clear 37's so stock will not cut it.
Your looking at a real 4" lift and maybe a 1"BL to get nice room to stuff.

When you get all this done you will then want a Dana 44 to start beefing up. C2 gussets and gears ....

On the trail I have seen Dana 44 stock axles break under heavy use so the upgraded axles are really necessary for 37's. That is again if you really are going offroad.

Doing axle upgrades does nothing to fix the main problem of the D30; it's small ring and pinion size. I would agree that the C2 gussets are needed on both the 30 and 44. I think D44's are marginal with 37's so I'd avoid them with a D30. A buddy, who is not abusive, just spun his ring and pinion his D30 and 35" combo. And he has stock axles and an open diff. For some silly reason he wants to do a Super 30 mod to it; which will not correct what broke and the main problem; the small and weak ring gear.

But installing superior gears would add strength to the ring and pinion and help solve this problem? I hear if they are installed correctly they are pretty bulletproof.

I've had a Tj d30 last awhile unlocked on 36's but I'm running 37's on my Jk d30 and don't plan on doing anything with it until I get the 60's under it. If you must run it it on 37's I wouldn't put to much money into and polish the turd but I would atleast throw some gussets on the c's. I've seen to many bend without them. I've also had good luck with tack welding the ujoint caps so they don't back out causing failure.

One of the sponsors fot the East Coast JK fest, i think it was 4wheel drive hardware, their JK was on 37's and front dana 30. I asked him about the combo and this was his reply in a nut sheel...... After grenading 2 Dana 44's he upgraded the originakl dana 30 to CHROMOLY shafts and Superior gears, NO LOCKER, and he felt it was stronger than the Rubicon 44. i have 35's on now and will be following his path of upgrades soon,

that guy also grenaded his D30 recently, trashed the gears and the eton elocker, (he's always had a front 30 locker)

his drivers side C is so bent, you can see the tire pushed in at the top about 3 or 4"..... He's going to need a new housing.

The 44's he destroyed were the rear ones, He's also not easy on his JK, it was fulltrottle and bouncing off rocks to break the rears

I have a friend (and forum member with a D30 and 37's He re-geared it but did not lock it, and he takes it easy with the right foot - so far it's been OK (he is looking for a D44 or D60).

Like anything in life; you need to use the right tool to get the job done!

Here is an example of a properly modified D30; mind you It cost less than a new D60. On a side note I run 37 inch tires on beadlock wheels.

Bombproof D30:

1.Control arm skids(front and rear): from Off Rod Evo.
2.Front track bar bracket: From Currie, Teraflex, or JKS.
3.44 mag Axle tube sleeves: from Off Rod Evo.
4.C2 gussets: from Off Rod Evo.
5.RockCrawler axle truss: Fom RockCrawler.
6.New HD Diff. Covers: Mine are Rockcrushers (very strong).
7.Chrome-molly axle shafts: Many brands to choose from.
8.New Gears: You can't go wrong with Yucon gears.

Quick Reply: Who's put 37s on with a front Dana 30?
