Default why have a snorkel

I took my Jeep for a swim last month (it needed the exercise) and have had warning light going off because the connectors got wet and I am okay with all that but there is one thing I don’t understand and that is the need for a snorkel. I was getting close to the air intake but not so close that I was worried about taking water in. The water in the cab and the water in the differentials is the biggest worry for me.

Because if you happen to take water in your intake, it's about a $4,000 repair.

Cheap insurance against the unknown. Never know if there's a deep hole somewhere in that water crossing. My snorkel has paid off!

Not to hijack the OP's thread, but this is relative. Do most guys do any other waterproofing when you use the snorkel? I mean, we do have an awful lot of electronics in these things, and the OP experienced some issues, albeit minor.

I find it to be cheap insurance, but it mostly gets "used" when initially nose-plunging into a puddle. Before the Jeep levels out, the air box is under water for several seconds - and if I get stuck like that for whatever reason, even longer..

I have gone through quite a few puddles over my hood that didn't do any damage to my interior/electronics (one time my windshield wipers were stuck on for about an hour but that was it), and that's without doors on..

No, the snorkel is for the intake in a close call for deep water. If it gets that deep, you shouldn't have been there........

Yea, I don't follow my own warnings, but the JK does very well with water over the hood and not splashing over either.....

I have seen threads where JK's hydro'ed in 6 inches of water when they went to fast without a snorkel.

Just my 3 cents...........

Right, I understand the snorkel's purpose. I'm just concerned that if I go too deep, I'll have some kind of electrical gremlins...
