why have a snorkel
Here is a better question. Why not have a snorkel? Lets see 4k for a engine rebuild or $350 bucks for a snorkel. I think I'll go with the snorkel. If all I have to do is change some diff fluid after a water crossing ill take it over a hydro locked engine any day.
I have the RR XHD and I feel a lot better about putting my tires in water. I'm not looking for water over the hood but at least I have a better chance than someone without one.

If you try fordyce without any lockers, you aren't going to get very far. I have run the trail more than 20 times. Many times the water crossings have put water over the top of my hood. I've never hydro locked and I don't run a snorkel. BUT I don't have the stock box, or its nice water sucking inlet.
Ask RIPP what the hp and torque numbers are for their supercharger using a snorkel. They don't offer them? Why not?
But if you do a snorkel and don’t extend you breather hoses to your diffs aren’t you doing only half the job? My diffs had water in them that would have taken them out if I didn’t check them. It seems like there should be a way to coil the line 1 ½ turn to prevent water from pouring down the hose. On the front the hose is vertical. What do you guys that go in water do to protect the diffs? Ollie1328 you need to give yours a look. I was in water up to the bottom of the head light for 10 minutes.

It is just something everyone should do as it just takes once and what a mess.........or worse a new transmission/transfer case.....
I don't intentionally go into really deep water, but that 2 foot stream or hole can turn into 3 foot or more really fast if someone with 44's was there the day before.
Yea, you can't see it till you fall into it.........
In Florida, I do a lot of water crossings and it is just good insurance.
I extended all the breather hoses the day after I got my Jeep, way before the snorkel.

Not terribly worried about water as I avoid it and theres not a heck of alot of it around here. I would like to get one of the low snorkels so I can put a Donaldson cyclic pre fiter on it. The dust here is terrible and I dont trust the washable filters to get the job done. I went through 5 air filters last summer.
Just said trees so you couldnt avoid the dust by going to the side. Also a standard air filter can be plugged in as little as 45 mins in heavy dust. You going to stop on the trail and clean it when you could just have a snorkel? Also as for dif breathers if water is your thing run them higher and look at a new fan as well as sealing all electronics..

get a washable one that you can clean after each off road adventure, even better
