I think it is hard on your transmission to use OD with that set up. Extra wear and tear and heat build up. Best to do what BigJerm does and just turn it off when you get in the Jeep. I suppose on a long flat or downhill stretch you would be okay though.

As far as 35's and 410's go, I am happy I did it. I will regear some day but am not in a hurry for now. It's just not that bad. I only really can tell when I have a long freeway speed hill to climb, the kind where your ears pop a little. Other than that, no big deal.

Rubimon, have you driven any other Jk's with gear swaps? just curious about comparisons. I'm like you, that $1000+ mod is not on my list at the moment. I'm fine with it.

No I haven't, and I dont even know of anyone with an auto and new gears. I haven't decided between 4.88 and 5.13 yet either. I will sit back and wait on a few others to do it. My rear lockers took a while to unlock on our last trip also, so I want to make sure I don't have any issues there before I do it.

I'm just not sold on the higher RPMs on the freeway! That is kind of what I have right now not using OD. My thoughts were 4.56 brings you back to stalk, 4.88 will make up for the extra mass you are rolling. I never felt that stock was too bad although I didn't have it that way very long to remember?

I do live in a hilly area plus any trip usually takes me over a mountain pass so the 5.13's may be the way to go????

where do you live, that is going to be the biggest question, if your in florida, or a low sea level place, your prolly going to be ok, if your in CO, i would regear, however...that being said, the jk isnt a speed demon, so the largest i would ever go is a 33 with 2" BB

I kinda wish I would have went 4.88's. I really dont know now if we'll step up to 37's anytime soon.

New Superior 5.13's are sittin' on the living room floor. Install is next week. Although the whole "regear" thing is new to me, I believe I will be happier with the 5.13's...

I thought I could live with the 4.10 gears and 35's but here in Colorado it is beginning to suck. Don't really use the 6th gear anymore on the hiway, and at times 5th gear is a struggle on steep hiway grades...

What I really miss is the lo gear while offroad...

Picked up the Jeep last night after getting the 5.13's installed -- SURE IS NICE TO HAVE POWER BACK. Was nice to hear the mechanic say "I was worried about the gear selection you made, but after test-driving it, you made the right choice. The 5.13 works great for the 35"s."
