Default will spacers reduce tire rub?

hello folks,

you might have seen my thread about the powdercoated sahara 18's-

https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/modified-jk-tech-2/powdercoated-sahara-18s-1302/

i've got toyo MT 12.5 33's on the stock rims, no lift-

my question is that am experiencing tire rubbing on the inside at full lock turn. i'm wondering if a set of spidertrax 1.25/1.5 spacers will reduce the rubbing appreciably or just marginally? or is getting a lift the only way to cure rubbing? i'd like to avoid getting a lift for just now.

overall not a huge issue, just parking in san francisco garages can be pretty tricky.

many thanks!

I'd be willing to bet you are rubbing your plastic air dam, am I right? If so, then as 2k2wranglerx said, no, spacer will not help you there. You will either need to lift your Jeep a bit or do some trimming.

Default I bet I know where you rub

I have the same tires on my JK, and my tires rub (the inner tread buckle because they are so beefy) on what I think is the front sway bar....... teraflex makes a aftermarket sway bar for 99$ that will be out soon, this is how I will remedy the rub..... assuming I am correct and that round bar is actually the front sway bar but I could br wrong... I did NOT have to trim my front plastic rock guard. By the way to answer your question I say yes the spacers will solve the problem but could create others so I would NOT opt for the spacers and save as last resort..... thats a 75lb tire your running on rims that must weigh 25llbs thats 100lbs dangling on the end of each axle, lot of strain which in itself is OK but no need to add to that by adding another layer between the rim and where it mounts to the Jeep with a spacer.... just my thoughts...if the rims surpass the flares you may think it looks cool (and sometimes it does) untill that killer tread on that beefy Toyo MT kicks up a small rock and it chips your paint.... mods are great, I have tons on all I own, but many times can lead to a squirrely path...... good luck.... I will email you some pics of my JK with rims and my toyo MT 295 70 r17s on powdercoat like commander HULK wreels..... sramponi@optimaleng.com

if you go this path of spacers go with sidertrax none other......that I am 1000% certain on they are hub centric...

hope this helps

Spacers or reduced backspace wheels (same effect) will help with rubbing on the frame or control arms, but will actually make it worse on the firewall or edge of the front bumper.

This is kinda counter intuitive. See pic.

My 33"s with 4.5 inch back spacing rubbed the air dam a little and I just trimmed it and it fixed that, but now i have completely removed b/c it acts a giant "spoon" when reversing in deep mud, so it actually helps suck your front end down in the mud and shoves the mud up over your axle and in between your radiator and belts. Also with less backspacing (which equals tires sticking out further) you rub really hard at full flex when the front wheels are pushed up all the into the fender flares, so a lift with bump stop extensions will fix that.

hope that helps.
