Default winch covers

I have a Warn winch VR 8000, and I'm trying to figure out how to cover it. The one Warn makes seems a little expensive for some vinyl and bungee cords. Plus a lot of the reviews say it doesn't fit that great and looks sloppy. For that effect, I could just mickey mouse a cover. Has anyone succeeded at making their own cover and could make some suggestions on fabric, construction, etc? Or does anyone know of a good universal winch cover for cheap?

Subscribed. I have the same concerns. Don't really want to fork over the $55 for a vinyl cover that is made to fit multiple winches and doesn't fit well and looks sloppy. I also have a VR8000 and would like to know know if anyone else out there has some other quality options. Anyone out there?

I have a vr8000 w/synthetic rope and I bought the warn cover for the m8000 and it seems to fit just fine. The cover has been on for a year and 2 months, in the rain, snow, mud and California sun. My jeep has alway been parked outside in the elements. Just this last Saturday I finally got to park her in the garage at my new place.
I didn't want to fork out $50 either but its better than spending $200+ for a new synthetic rope. Also the pic I posted was taken last Friday

Thanks Bob-O. That looks like the Warn Winch cover 13916 (WARN 13916 Soft Winch Cover : Amazon.com : Automotive). I'd like to find a snugger, neoprene cover if possible. Esp if the cover is going to run $50+.

Another cheap option: Waterproof Soft Winch Dust Cover - fits Driver model LD12-PRO and many other winches : Amazon.com : Automotive

Has anyone tried fitting this (WARN 81761 Neoprene Winch Cover : Amazon.com : Automotive) neoprene cover for a XD9000i on the VR series warn winches?

Your welcome, I don't think the warn neopreme cover will work because the xd9.5 winch is larger than the vr8000. For the other soft cover, it might work but u should find out the dimensions of the vr8000 first. If the size is right I would probably get that one since its only $13 but don't forget, you get what you pay for

Easily found these (just a google search away).

VR8000 Dimensions:
Winch Dimensions: 20.80 in. L x 6.3 in. D x 6.97 in. H (528mm L x 160mm D x 177mm H

XD9000i Dimensions:
Winch Dimensions: 21.8" L. x 6.3" D. x 9.9" H. (553mm L. x 160mm D. x 254mm H.)

So the XD9.5 is about 1 inch longer and 3 inches taller... hmmm might be worth trying it to see how it fits. Anyone done this before?

Default Rope cover

I really cheeped out and got some 1/8" black reinforced rubber, cut a couple slots and used two nylon straps to cover the rope. Comes off fast, kind of a bear to put back on, but that happens at home anyway.

So here's what I ended up going with. For $13, I'd say it turned out pretty good. Thought I'd share.

Winch Cover: Waterproof Soft Winch Dust Cover - fits Driver model LD12-PRO and many other winches : Amazon.com : Automotive

The cover is made of water-resistant nylon with a sewn-in elastic band around the edges so it fits securely around the winch. I used a sharpie marker to color the yellow piping black and then put the Warn sticker that came with my winch on the front of the cover. Looks good now, we'll see how it holds up with some rain and weathering.
