Default Winch or Lockers?

So I am unsure after researching on here if it would be more beneficial to get selectable lockers or a winch. I will be getting a 2Dr '14 sport, with no rear limited slip. I am going to get a 2.5" RK Max Travel with RK RRD 2.0's and run 33's. This is my first Jeep so I plan on taking my time learning how to wheel better, and it will be my DD.

So what do you guys think? I was planning to get the Smittybilt X20 10k, but then I thought lockers may be a better option. I was considering Eaton E-Lockers. The winch can get me out of a jam, but then again the lockers may keep me out of a jam. If I should get lockers should I get both front and rear, or just focus on rear for now?

I'd get a rear locker and a cheaper winch go wheel the crap out of it then if you need more get a front locker

An expensive winch isnt going to do a lot more than a cheaper decent unit....lockers will get you along ways the winch is a last resort thing...

Sounds like good advice to me. I went with front and rear ARBs before my winch but just a rear locker is a good start

I'm going to say winch. You state that you want to take your time and learn how to wheel better. By not having lockers, you are forced to learn how to wheel better since it forces you to choose better lines to make it over trail obstacles as opposed to just turning on your locker. It's just amazing how capable these new JKs are. Even without a locker, they will go farther than any other Jeep due to the articulation of the suspension and the BLD.

The winch will just be extra insurance.

X2!!! You can go almost all the same places the guys with lockers go... I can keep up with guys with front and rear locked with only LSD rear and better lines. (maybe it is just a few of the people out here, but it seems as if lockers do more to compensate for their lack of skill than anything).
you can still get stuck with lockers.... so...with that being said: if you only use your winch ONCE...it has paid for itself.

Yeah I think I will go with a good winch over lockers. Kinda makes more sense really. A winch would save you in a tight spot more times than lockers. Ive been reading many more threads and there are quite a few people that believe a good winch is the most important mod to do, except maybe good tires.

IMO i would go locker over winch. Rule# 1 dont wheel alone....if you're only doing mild wheeling I highly doubt you'll ever get into a situation where you cant be towed out.....now for my next opinion: I would skip the 33s and get 35s. you will not regret it. trust me, the only thing you may regret is not going with 37s

Wait and put in the locker when you regear.

I have to agree with Cam36, lockers first, winch second. On my 2012 Sport which I had for over a year, I only used the winch once, and would not have had to, had i lockers. Excactly why I traded it in on a 2013 JKU Rubicon. Now I have the lockers 4-1 transfer case, and the winch. All i need now is the lift and 35's or 37's!!!!

You could get an Aussie luchbox in the front and a winch for less than $800 depending on what winch you get. The Aussie is a pretty easy install, I did mine in about 2 hours.
