So even with both front and rear lockers you were unable to get past that patch of ice? Im wondering if some chains would be a good investment for that sort of situation.

Precisely!

I think that in that case the best tool for the job would have been a bag of kitty litter.

Yeah, I got high centered crossing an iced-over stream up there. My fault for picking the wrong line. Lockers didn't help, chains likely would have. Glad I had the winch... Many of the trails are closed all winter, but snow wheeling is a semi-popular and quite a few people carry a good set of chains. (not the cheapie walmart sets)

There is some good info here if you decide to grab a set.

If you can, assuming it's offered as an option on the Sport, I'd go ahead and just get the rear LSD factory installed. That with the winch and you're good to go. Upgrade to a front locker later on.

I was wanting to get the OE LSD, but it comes in a stupid upgrade package with a bunch of other crap I do not want. I have heard those things tend to get burned up off-roading since they are of the clutch variety. It would be nice if they offered more upgrade options to the drive train.

I got the sport with the LSD. It was a $200 upgrade. The sport "S" package was the expensive part. That included the power windows and door locks and 17" wheels etc etc...
So the LSD was nothing in comparison and a requirement for myself.

I like this advice. I just bought a D44 Rear Detroit Truetrac today and am bringing the Jeep in for 4:88 gears in a few weeks. I would love an e-locker locker for the front, but I will wait a few years and save up for a winch and bumpers first.

Sorry if this was said but not reading 8 pages lol but I'd go with the lockers unless your wheeling by yourself. As long as you've got a rope you'll be good. I've been out a bunch of times and no one has ever really needed a winch rope was enough so I'm saving the money
