Default Winch question

Not sure if this is the right place for this but what is the best way to run the winch cables to the battery? Does it matter if they get hot?

I just routed mine under the front grill above the sway bar and over to the battery. Heat shouldn't be an issue as long as its not extreme. Just make sure you route the wire away from anything that can cut or wear through the wires coating. and/or put it in a protective sheath.

I run an optima yellow top. I cooked the stock one winching. It dropped a cell but was almost 2 years old.

An Optima yellow top is a good choice for winching.

I'm rocking a red top but then again- I don't winch every weekend. I just do the monthly maintenance.

Yellow top here too. Always run the engine when winching.

I run the stock battery and it works fine. Like it was mentioned previously, just keep the engine running. As for the wires I ran mine under the grille and past the airbox to the battery. I also covered mine in some standard automobile wiring insulator that I picked up from autozone. Good luck!

The stock battery won't last long if the winch sees much use..
