Default winch

If you are just wanting one more than needing one I would watch places like ebay or craigslist. I found a steal on one on craigslist. I bought a 12000 lb milemarker winch with a stainless brushguard for a 2500 chevy that was 2 months old and the winch had never been rolled out. The guy had it listed for only $600 and when he saw cash came down to $500. The combo was 2 months old. I sold the brushguard on craigslist for $650. That makes a free winch and $150 cash in my pocket. If you are patient you can probably find a deal on one.

If your budget is around $500 and if you can spare an extra $31, you can get a Superwinch EP 9.0 for $531 shipped. This is about the best bang for the buck. The SUperwinch was the finalist with Warn in a Moab Jeeper Magazine winch shootout. It also has a lifetime warranty. They also have a 8000 lbs for about $350.

I have a real dislike for the cheap Chinese winches. If you shop you can get a Warn or Superwinch for about 600. Long term you'd be much happier.

So which ones are made in China and which ones are US? I think Warn is US and I know Ramsey is too. Not sure of the others.

I am with you there. It is difficult to find products made in the U.S. these days.
I don't mind spending a little more for U.S. made products.

The smittybilt XRC8 is what I have and it does the job. It will recover just about anything you throw at it, within reason. It seems to be what a person would need if you are only going to use it sparingly.

There are no winches that are 100% made in the US. All have parts that are made here and come from other countries... All Superwinch are not made in China, only a few but most are made here. Same with Warn, not all there winches are made in the U.S.
