Default Winch Size?

I'm going to order a warn HP PowerPlant. Should I go with the 12,000 or get the 9,500? And where is the best place to order it from?

the 9500 is all you really need and any of our sponsoring vendors such as northridge4x4, 4wd or qtech should be able to help you out.

Just wonder if the 12,000 would be better for my jeep than the 9,500 or is it overkill?

I have used a Warn 9.5ti for years and have never found any instance where it would not pull my JK out of anything. I do believe we tend to overkill our winch requirements sometimes.

Yeah so since the 12,000 is only a 100$ more would it be worth it?

seriously, i rule of thumb is that you want a winch that has the pulling strength roughly double what your vehicle weighs. a 4-door JK weighs just shy of 5,000 lbs so a 9500 winch is really all that you need. but hey, if you want more than you can use, i suppose it's just money.

do you know what a snatch block is?

For an additional $100, I would go with the 12,000. So what if you never need that much power.

Have you ever run out of winch line? I have. If I can only get to my winch point with a few wraps left on the drum and a 75 ft line a snatch block is useless.

It never hurts to buy the bigger winch, but sometimes it hurts not to...
