Man that's a drag for sure, can't imagine what it would be other than like jusaplaya said......bad solenoid..??? Did you smack it a few times? corroded contacts?
Speaking of solenoid (not to hijack the thread) but I picked up a brand new M8000 but it doesn't have the solenoid or the remote, Does anybody know where I can get one for a decent price? Warn wants an arm and a leg for the damn things....!!!

was the winch new when you installed it?
if it was not, perhaps the contact points on yr remote are not
making a good connection. much like trailer wiring that gets
dirty. as with that stuff, one has to fuss around w/ it......
why should you re-spool it the first time jusaplaya??
does this apply if you have syn. line?

On my Warn PowerPlant, there's an on-off switch on the remote itself. It has the generic "you're-too-stupid-to-read" on and off symbols. EDIT: I made a mistake--this control is for the air compressor.
There's a separate control to tell the winch which direction to spool. The winch won't budge until you tell it which way (that switch must be held to keep it moving).
If that's not the problem contact Warn. A couple others have mentioned problems over the last couple years, but all have had immediate response from Warn to get it fixed.
