winch trouble
Even if the winch was new, the contacts can still be corroded. Since they are copper....or have copper in them, they are subject to corrosion. A Solenoid is a very simple thing. I would drill the rivets out and tak it apart and look at it. You might can clean it up and get some small nuts and bolts and screw it back together. I've done it before on older Ford solenoids and they are very similar. Be careful taking it apart if you do. It has a spring in it and you don't want it to go flying everywhere. Just take it apart, clean it up and put it back together the same way it came apart. What do you have to lose? It's already not working. If you fix it, you'll have spent next to nothing.
On my Warn PowerPlant, there's an on-off switch on the remote itself. It has the generic "you're-too-stupid-to-read" on and off symbols. After you turn that on, there's a separate control to tell the winch which direction to spool. The winch won't budge until you have it both on, and tell it which way (that switch must be held to keep it moving).
Yes. There should be directions in the installation manual. Basically, you need to unspool the cable and hook it up to something, then spool it back onto the drum under tension. You're taking out the slack, else the next time you pull hard the outer coils may pull under the loose inner coils, creating a small mess. Despite having done that with a newly installed synth line, I still had it get tangled, causing the temporary loss of about 25-feet of line. Fortunately, I didn't need it for the pulls I was doing, so respooled it with a bit more tension this time.
i really cant figure out why mines not working and its starting to drive me insane, i may have to have some of the guys here in my local jeep club to take a look. its my first jeep...first winch...im 18..so still "young and stupid"...so says my pop
"So say we all."* No, I'm just kidding. I have a 19 year old son--a junior at Oklahoma University in the Engineering Physics department carrying straight A's. And I work with lots of Eagle Scouts--so I know just how smart our young people can be. Sometimes electrical problems can be mystifying. Have you contacted Warn, yet? I can assure you that, although you may not yet have the experience to tell you this, they want to get you and your winch going. They are a top-notch company with great products. Give them a call.
