Winches
Hello all- I just picked up a smittybuilt stubby bumper. Any advice on a winch (#'s, etc) for a 2013 JKUR? And would be adding a extra battery be worth it, it probably won't see that much use, but as a "insurance policy" more or less for the rough weather and trails here in Minnesota.
I say just get one really good battery like a optima red top. If your worried about killing your battery you can always one of those auto jumpers in the back. I'v seen the youtube video on how to modify the battery tray/ air box tray to fit 2 batteries and it looks like a major pain in the ass. But if you want to have the dual system go for it.
Well... You'll get more suggestions than you can shake a stick at.
Can't go wrong with a Warn winch.
I've got a 10,000 lb Road Shock winch which is from Harbor Freight. I paid $100 for it on CL, just had to find some wires and buy a fairlead for it.

My cheap winch has worked great for me and my Jeep.
As for the Dual battery, I would suggest a Optima Yellow top or anything better than stock if you're worried. My stock battery lasted 4 years.

Sure, you can't go worn with a Warn but you can sure go broke... LOL.
I would suggest no matter what you get, it should be at least a 10,000 lb winch for your 4-door. I went with a Recon 10'500 lb with synthetic line that I paid $500 shipped to my door. It also came with a wireless & wired remote a cover and a few extras (snatch block and recovery strap).
I've only used it twice so far in the almost 2 years I've had it, both to get someone else out. The second time I used it turned out to be about a 10 min dead pull, my buddy was far and his truck was dead. I took a couple of breaks to give the battery and the winch motor a rest, I still had the stock battery and probably as a result on the added strain I needed a new battery after 2 days. I went with the DieHard Platinum from Sears.
There is no doubt that the Warn is probably the best you can get, but you will pay for it. I went the inexpensive route and it has worked out well for me, if the winch ever dies, I can buy another brand new one and still be ahead in $$ over the Warn.
There are many that will tell you the most expensive is the best and thus the way to go. If money was no factor, I'd go with the Warn and the Optima (or 2), but since for most of us money is a concern a Recon and a DieHard will do just fine.

How is it that #1 and #2 pretty much broke on the maximum pull test... Maybe because they're the most expensive so they must be the best
