Without starting anything..
I have been around hot rods and tunners since day 1. Using diablo here. With catback and cai notice nice increase with canned tunes.
Typically I'm the hot rod world u want to get a custom tune with datalog going via a/r measured using wideband. Why becouse it's under load and not on rollers. I have worked with probally 10 of the best tunners in the country on Ford products and SRT8 products. Custom over canned is night and day. My srt8 jeep picked up .5 in the 1/4 from a canned to custom and that was conservative tune with just cai and catback and catchcan. Ran a 12.8.
Typically the tunes that come with a tunner are to be very conservative performance wise. If a tunner went blowing up motors it would be bade deal.
Diablo (correct me if wrong) is only one out that supports custom tunes. Now the wrangler is not a hot rod and I don't know if any good tunners have messed with the penstar.
My experance has always been that a canned tune is nice increase but custom tunes can turn ithe vehicle into a whole different animal.
Big 2 that do custom tunes. Diablo and SCT.
Also with days logging they use to write a custom tune they can dial in MPG tune, performance Tune or what ever u are looking for. Every jeep is different so the canned tunes are good but they are written conservative and to cover the whole spectrum of Pids safely and efficiently. With datalog a tunner can dial your jeep in with your real world numbers.
However, I would say jeepers are more concerned with features then performance. That being said superchips has back up camera hook in abilities and cool dash mount.
Bottom line is if u want the best tunes (performance) possible go diablo and use a good tunner and email datalog a back and forth untill dialed. Johna is great and hemi feaver. I am new to penstars so I don't know how deep the tunners are able to get and do. If u are note of features then compare features and mounting options.

We use the SuperChips tuners on all our Jeeps. And we have an SCT from Hemi Fever with custom tunes on a modified Ram.
If you are leaving the Jeep stock the Superchips Flashpaq is great, however, if you are going to add CAI, throttle body, and exhaust, a custom SCT tune would def be worth while to take advantage of the custom parts.

I'm another one from the mustang/drag world, also a big fan of Diablo.
All programmers are very conservative out of the box. You can pick up a good bit w a custom tune. If you don't know what your doing don't mess with it yourself though. Ive seen a good bit of engine damage due to bad tuning.

Fantastic. I'm a hot rodder from the GM world though. Jeeping is new to me so that's why I'm looking for the info. I don't know how deep, or how much need there is for tuning one.
Right now, I just need a recal for the tires. But being a hot rod guy, I'm sure I'll end up with something else for more power

I was talking in one of the local shops here and they were telling me the Diablo "reflashed" and burned the ECM but ones like Hypertech and SCT were "stack on" programs, making them more reliable. I've never heard anything like that. And it kinda confuses me on what I know all these programmers to do. Can anyone explain the difference? If there is any?
I have always ran the BullyDog GT tuner and loved the results just plug it in and go...plus the additional gauges it gives you are awesome...all the work for a custom tune to get maybe another 10-15 Hp just guessing sounds ridiculous. These are incredible off-road machines not hot rods and the new 3.6 is pretty damn stout at almost 300 ponies right out the gate.Throw a Tuner, CAI,Cat Back,TBS and synthetic fluids and you got 340-350 HP and 300+ LbFt sounds like a great combo to me...just my .02
