Default French newbie with a CRD

Hi guys, I'm here daily and really appreciate this forum but don't dare to post since my english is quite... basic.

My name is Jean-Philippe, and I'm a 35 year old french firefighter. I live in Lyon, near the Alps mountains and I'm the lucky owner of a brand new black 2008 CRD Unlimited Sahara.

Why black ? Because my wife wanted it black, so I didn't have choice
Why CRD ? Because here in France, Unlimited Sport (X) Rubicon or Sahara are only available with the CRD engine... I would have bought it with the CRD anyway cause in France gas is VERY VERY expensive ( about 7,6 $ per gallon for SP95, and 6,4 $ per gallon for diesel ! No you don't dream )
The CRD has a better mileage too, mine is about 23 mpg.
If you want to compare again, I payed mine with the top in top and teinted windows 35 000 €, that is to say about 50 000 $ ( -again, I just realize it's HUGE in dollars, even if the Euro is quite strong nowadays )

The Sport comes with the manual trans, and the Rubicon and Sahara come with the auto one. All unlimited in France come with a rear Dana 44, it's not an option, only Rubicon ones have a front too.

In the past I've had four CJ7 and one CJ5 (a V8 Golden Eagle), my father has a '87 XJ (I think he addicted me).

I also have a '06 Smart Brabus, it's a 75 HP micro car made by Daimler Chrysler very useful here in our crowded towns, but not imported in USA, and a '99 Ducati Mostro 900 Cromo, I just love it

My first mod on the JK was the "Sahara stickers removal", now I'm saving money to put a 2.5" BB, spacers and 35" MT tyres on my stock 18s ASAP (I've learned here that's it's possible, thank you Wayoflife and others !)

Next I will put a TFT LCD monitor on the stock DVD player (thank you DB888 !) with a rear cam, and a Thule rack.

Thanks again to everyone that makes this forum so helpful !

Take care and happy holidays

Welcome! Your english seems quite good, so I wouldn't be too worried about posting.

No pics of the Jeep driving over the smart car?

Enjoy the Jeep!

Bonjour Jean Philippe ,

Since this a forum in English i will continue in English , but here near Brussels we speak French also.
I ordered the same black sahara 2.8 CRD about two months ago and i will have to wait another four before it will be delivered ( i hope ).
And i think we have a bit the same taste , i also drive a Smart brabus cabrio ( black ) almost for the same reason , cruising through Brussels , and last week i sold my BMW R 1200 RT motorcycle .
I will post a nice pick when the sahara will be delivered and i will follow the modifications you make on yours.

Greetings from Brussels and au revoir.
Ferre
