Smile Hello from Beaumont, TX

Just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and take a moment to introduce myself and let y'all know about a possible project I have in mind. Previously I have owned a '78 FJ40 daily driver, had a lot of beach fun while going to college in that vehicle. Used it off road, deer hunting on a few trips in west Texas. Sold it in '82 after getting caught up in a multi-vehicle wreck in Houston.

Wasted money on a Ford F-150 2wd w/ limited slip for a few years, daily driver but used it coyote hunting on BLM land in New Mexico. It was a POS, had to be tuned in the summer or it would die when pulling away from a stop, then it had to be tuned in the winter to avoid the same problem when it started getting cold outside.

Traded the POS Ford for 1986.5 Nissan King Cab 4wd, daily driver. Loved that truck, hunted all over west Texas in that truck. Stock in 4HI / 4LO it took my dad, my wife and I places on west Texas ranches that stock 4x4 PU's / Bronco / Blazers wouldn't tread. Had 206,351 miles, at least 12% of that in 4HI / 4LO, when the manual transmission let go on the way to work one morning. Ran just as strong at 200K+ miles as it did when new. It loved to fly over the I-10 hills west of San Antonio at 80 in 5th gear. I have regret not getting that truck repaired to this day.

Currently driving a loaded Honda Ridgeline, it is by far the most luxurious truck, ok city sorta truck, I have ever driven, BUT I don't really like it. Bought it thinking I would pass it along to my son when he started driving, he was 11 when I got it. Now 14 he does not like it and I don't blame him. It's got blind spots out the wahzoo, I am not comfortable starting a new driver out in a Ridgeline.

That brings me to my possible project. Son flat out states he isn't a truck guy, states he isn't a car guy unless you are talking Porsche / Ferrari heck I wish I was that kind of car guy myself. Ain't gonna happen. He does like the looks of Jeeps / FJ Crusier's. FJ's out it's got worse blind spots than the Ridgeline.

Thinking seriously about trading the Ridgeline for a JK Wrangler Unlimited. Guiding my son through some mod's to give him a sense of ownership, yeah got a job lined up for him next summer so he can help pay for the mod's, and let him slowly take it over after he is 16 and gets his license.

So when you see my post I'll be looking for safe and sane mod advice geared toward a new driver, growing into a daily driver / some wheeling and mudding / girl chasing / guy fun Wrangler Unlimited.

Cheers and thanks,

Robar -- In your gallery where were you in img.oooo81? I don't think that was around Odessa, sure never saw any rocks like that dove hunting around Crain back in the early 80's.

Just wondering?
