Default New 2014 Rubicon

Hi All,

I owned a 2000 Sport through 2004 when I felt utility forced me to buy a RAM. I'm finally back with a new Anvil Rubicon. I'm really loving this; I can't wait to get it dirty.

One of the first additions is going to be a hitch receiver dirt bike carrier. Soon will be a roof rack and we'll see from there.

I really love this site and all of the great information available.

Sweet! Another 2 door. Looks good. Managed to keep mine unbent for about 12 months. Now all my plastic is shredded. Fuel tank carries one less gallon of gas. How intense do you want to wheel? Do you have plans for it yet? Does she have a name?

I just want to do some mild wheeling. We have some fire roads nearby in OC that are surprisingly fun on a dirt bike and probably only slightly challenging for the Rubi (although they're definitely not just easy dirt roads). Likely do some camping with the wife.

Recommendations?

For what you're describing you may never use your lockers. It's hard to avoid the bug though and go find some rocks. I did 99% of the Rubicon with no lockers.

IMO, the factory skid protection under the jeep leaves much to be desired. The gas tank skid is worthless. The crossmember is weak too.

That's kind of the thing about the Rubicon, the lockers will drag it kicking and screaming over damn near anything, damage be damned.

Before I even think about a lift and tires, I'm going to protect the belly.

That would be overkill though for dirt roads/no boulders.

Default First Dirt

Last week I took it out into the dirt for the first time. Actually is was pretty wimpy, I just drove a few miles up Maple Springs Road by Silverado in Orange County CA. We ride Dual Sport bikes up here all the time. It's not just a smooth dirt road but it is also not really a challenge for the Rubicon. I was by myself so I didn't want to do anything risky. The Jeep had no issues. I went up in 4 wheel low and used the sway bar disconnect for the first time.

I am super happy with my Rubi. It definitely has more power than my 2000 Wrangler Sport. The ride is a bit more quiet on the road. Contrary to some others I've heard from I do like the Nav radio along with the connectivity with my iPhone for phone calls and listening to music.

man I love that color, I might end up selling my 2013 freedom edition for that, put a 4in lift on it and some fuel wheels*17in* with some 35s or 37s. Man just gives me chill bumps just thinking about it!

Cant wait to see you build it to your liking! Amazing choice mate!
