I’m Tim, and new to the Jeep world, though I had an FJ40 and did some light wheeling when I was in my twenties. My wife and I, plus our dog, tow our JK behind our converted school bus, so that we have a way to reach trailheads and grocery stores when we’re boondocking. I recently made several mods to the JK so no current pics, but I can share a shot of our traveling rig. I’m no mechanic, but I try to do most things myself and learning as I go.
I’m mainly here for help with technical issues that I am running into, hoping to learn from those more experienced. :-)
Welcome Tim, very good looking Rig... Ready for multiple activities. Good group of members with much tech & off road knowledge. Post up your questions.
Thank you for the welcome! I am well aware that if you want a bunch of “shot in the dark” answers, go to Facebook but if you want knowledgeable responses, go to the forums. Not saying you can’t get good help on FB groups, it’s just that the signal to noise ratio is much higher on forums.
I’ve been online since the early 1980’s and greatly value the community and the ability to learn from experts. Cheers!
Nice! We built ours over a 4 year period. It’s designed to be our full time home once we get rid of all the crap I’ve collected over the last 5 decades. We can go a couple weeks before we need a dump station and water refill. Where do you usually travel?

Based in Arizona, but have done most of the USA and a bit of Canada. Doing a 6-week tour of the Eastern Seaboard starting in late September. My JKU is "Toad 1". "Toad 2" is our Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Toads depend on the destination. Spent many days in Moab both mountain biking and 4-wheeling. Now it's mostly day-trip fire roads. Frankly, running out of contiguous USA to explore!
We are too much into "glamping" to go a couple of weeks without a dump/refill! Spent a good part of my early adulthood backpacking for days and sleeping under the stars. Now it's a nice, warm shower, air conditioning, and a soft bed!!

The east coast is nice in September, depending on where you want to be. It's still summer as you go further south, and you get some chilly nights on the northern coast. I'm originally from NY and lived in Boston and the north shore for several years.
We spent this past winter bopping around New Mexico, Arizona, and Southern California. I've lived out west, but this was the first time I spent enough time in the desert to really experience the variety of plant and animal life. We found some places we definitely want to get back to for longer stays.

Oh, we're way beyond "glamping"! My wife wanted our RV to be "comfy and pretty" (her words), so I built it with custom cabinetry, a red cedar shower, super nice bed, mini-split, and even a dishwasher. We don't have slide-outs, but with a little ingenuity, we made 200 sq ft work out very well.
I recently read about similar trips and see that many people also tow a JK behind their camper so they can reach remote places. I understand that when you have to do the mods yourself, you end up with a lot of questions and there aren’t always ready answers. I think you can find a lot of useful info about technical details here if you describe your problem clearly.
