Niagara Rim Run & Camping Trip - August 8th-9th
Okay boys and girls, I'm posting this run up really early because I'm hoping to get more of you NorCal folks out to play with the SoCal gang. Like last year, the run we will be doing is Niagara Rim and it is located east of Modesto. Niagra Rim is a beautiful trail with a lot of options and challenges for intermediate to extreme hardcore wheelers. Some of the trail highlights include obsticals such as Hardbreak Hill, No Way Out and Sidewall Suicide. Of course, there are some great play areas including the famous Lions Butt and The Rock Pile. Needless to say, if you can take the time off to join us, I can guarantee that you're gonna have a blast!!
So you know, WOLette and I will be staying at the Niagra Rim OHV Campground which is also where we will be meeting on the day of our run. There are about 15 designated campsites here (more than one Jeep can probably fit in each) and there is a fee of $6 a day per vehicle. There are pit toilets here but no running water so if you decide to camp with us, be sure to bring plent of water. Likewise, you will need to be responsible for feeding yourself so please pack meals for each day you will be up with us. There are established metal fire rings at each of the campsite and barring any restrictions that might be in effect, fires are allowed but you will need to pick up a permit at the ranger station on the way up. If you prefer to stay in hotel, there is lodging opportunities in Modesto (a little over an hour from the trail), in Sonora (about 1/2 hour from the trail) and even Strawberry or Dardenelles (minutes away from the trail).
If you plan on meeting up with us on Saturday morning, we will be at the Niagra OHV campground at 10:00 AM. This trail typically takes about 3 hours to do but depending on the size of our group and the amount of obsticals we attempt, it may take a bit longer. If you are staying the weekend, we will be doing a hardcore run up The Rock Pile.
The Niagra Rim OHV campground is located off highway 108 northeast of Sonora and southwest of highway 395. Click on the link below to see a Google map of this location and to route yourself there. I have also provided GPS coordinates as well:
Niagra Rim OHV Turn-Off
GPS: 38.319743,-119.926138
Niagra Rim OHV Campground
GPS: 38.310749, -119.890175
So you know, the weather up there should be real nice by day and cool at night and the chance of a thundershower is always a possibility up in the Sierra's so please pack accordingly.

PLEASE NOTE: While some of the hardest obstacles do have bypasses, there are a few challenging ones that do not. Need I say, TOW HOOKS UP FRONT AND A TOW POINT IN THE REAR (HITCH RECEIVER OKAY) ARE A MUST for this run so please come prepared. Likewise, while we have been able to get a stock Sahara up this trail, I am going to recommend that rocker guards are a must as well. A 2.5" BB with 35" tires are highly recommended and lockers would sure help out a lot as well.
