Rubicon Trail. July, 16-18.
I just wanted to post up a date for the Rubicon trail ahead of time so everyone can prepare and requesting day off if needed.
Please use the last gas up at 7720 Highway 50, Pollock Pines, CA its about an mile or so before turning onto Ice House rd. Takes about 1/4 tank from hwy 50 to Loon Lake so be sure to gas up.
CB Ch: 16
2m: 144.490
Date: July 16th - July 18th
Location: Rubicon Trail.
Meet At: Trail head @ Loon Lake.
Drivers' Meet: 9am
Duration: EST. 3 days 2 nights. but ( generally complete in 2 days, giving 3rd day for just "in-case")
Direction: Take the Ice House Road \Cyrstal Basin exit off Hwy 50 about 20 miles east of Placerville. Follow Icehouse Road for approximately 28 miles until you hit the Loon Lake road which goes to the right. Follow it about another 4 miles until you cross the second Loon Lake dam, which puts you at what is called the spillway. You are now at the start of the Rubicon.
Trailhead coordinate: N39 0 15.0 W120 18 42.0
Trail Condition: Like many trails. The trail condition can change rapidly for each season. However, seem to many that this season the trail condition will be rough in July more than previous years.
What to expect: Please remember. We will be in a remote, area miles of low speed crawlin through out many obstacles, please be mentally prepared with endurance and stay calm as you can be. The trails like Rubicon, Fordyce, and Dusy can be quit mentally and physically challenged by many beginners.
Disclaimer: This is "NOT" an Alpha Expedition official gathering run. It is simply a weekend getaway with meeting up new people, and catching up with old friends. Alpha Expedition will not be responsible for any psychical injuries, damages of your vehicle(s) and such. Operating motor vehicles under the influence on trail(s) just as dangerous as on the road. You will be responsible for your own action.
Be aware: If you are off the center of the trail by more than 25 ft - you will get a stiff citation! Minimum $275!
You can still camp anywhere you want, but your vehicle needs to be parked within the 50 ft of the trail.
Vehicle Requirements:
- Vehicle recovery points Front & back.
- Rock Sliders.
- Differential "Protective" Covers.
- Off Road tires 32" or larger (no Street tires)
- Minimum Lift 2" or higher.
- Some proper skid would be ideal.
Camping:
- WAG bags. Can be purchase at local sporting goods store such as REI, Cebelas, Bass Pro shop and etc. Or I can do a bulk purchase @ cost and everyone save.
- Warm clothing. It is summer however it can be quit chilly and freezing at night.
- Drinking Water. Enough for yourself and for anyone who you are bringing.
- Food and snacks. In case the trip turned into a total recovery mission.
- Sleeping bag(s)
- Chair.
- Change of cloth.
- Cooking wares
Most important of all.... BRING YOUR CAMERA!!!!
*** I will try to set up 2-3 Rubicon runs this summer from July- Sept. If you weren't able to make it to this one. Please keep posted on the Aug or Sept run.***
