I'm planning to buy a kayak, most likely a tandem, so I can ride with my son. Any kayakers here and do you belong to any club or association in the Seattle area?

Cool! What did you get?

I am trying to decide between a Necky or a Seda. I have been reading many good reviews about both.

I recently paddled a tandem built like the Aleutian Eskimos' original models. It was awesome. Very maneuverable despite size and weight.

Kayak yes, but down here on the Gulf Coast we use SOT's. The local tandem favorite is the OK Malibu II.

We picked up an Old Town Loon 160T. Its a polymer tandem kayak. We took it out to a bird sanctuary/wetland. It tracked really well and was pretty maneuverable. Especially for my wife slacking in her kayaking duties.

We've been really happy with our Carolina series boats from Perception. They have a few tandem models.

Thanks!

I see LLBean has a promotion on the Old Town Dirigo XT. It looks quite interesting and has good reviews.

I have used Current Designs Caribou S's for years. I've had two for my son and me.

They're great in rough seas and for expedition kayaking. My son is now 17 and is quite comfortable in this boat.

For much younger than that I would recommend something much more stable. Good luck and God Bless.
