Airway Heights for me!
For all you Eastern WA / Northern ID folks:

The Kootenai County (Idaho) commissioners have embarked upon a plan to create an ORV Park in Chilco! Yes, a complete ORV park - minus the sand pit!
Not sure when it will be open; will take some work to get it going, but it is moving ahead slowly!

FYI, Chilco is located north of CdA along Hwy 95.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum!

Please be very careful driving on any US Forest Service property.
Every USFS unit has implemented what is called a "Travel Management Plan." That requires each USFS unit to catalog and then categorize all their inventoried roads/trails. Each forest unit has or will be issuing a Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) which designates where motorized travel is allowed. If you are caught on a non-motorized road/trail, you can be fined, imprisoned, your vehicle impounded, or any combination thereof. Only the Couer d'Alene Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forest (IPNF) has issued their MVUP.

The Colvile NF (here in NE WA has also issued their MVUM. I have copies of both forests' maps if you want them.

There is one very active 4x4 club in this area. It's the North Idaho Trail Blazers (NITB). They meet the first Wednesday of each month at Cabela's in Post Falls startiong at 6:30 PM. Be advised if you want a seat to show up early!

The NITB also has a very good working relationship with the ID BLM. We are currently working on a plan to construct a 4x4 obstacle area on one of the BLM's motorized trails.

If you need any more information, please e-mail me.

Off the trail? That's right, everything nowadays has to be done on the trails. However, in northern ID there are some trails that do reach the 5 factor (on a scale of 1 to 5), but I haven't been on them as my 2007 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is also my daily driver. So don't want to wreck it too bad. The only major mod I've made right now is to install a new front bumper. But, yes, it does have a lot of "NW pinstripping" because I do wheel it. E-mail me off the forum so I can send you to the off-road section of my personal website. It has videos and pictures of my off-roading trips!

Not sure what you mean by "good trails." As I mentioned above, the NITB does an annual event called "Cabin Fever." There we break the 80 entrants into classes according to their vehicle's set up and do an all-day trail ride in and around Pinehurst and Cataldo Idaho. That's where I'm aware of the scale 5 trails. I guess they are really tough.

ill just have to do more research i guess on my area and once i get my jeep ill check into the NITB but i dont want to get to far ahead of myself! thanks for the information man. i know ill have the chance to explore up around preist lake since thats where im going this summer with the owners of the jeep. in fact thats where its done most of its offroading. when u say level 5, would a level 5 be similar to say the rubicon trail?

That would depend upon the scale. I've not been to the Rubicon and haven't seen what it's rated at, but from what I hear/read, it's probably a 5 so yes, I think some of the trails in and around Pinehurst would be similarily rated.

Any time you want to get together and talk, just e-mail me ahead of time and we can do!
In the meantime you may want to check out my off-road pages on my personal website at www .dog-walker.us/off-road.htm (sorry, can't make it a clickable link since I'm not one of the JK-Forum sponsors).

The North Idaho Trail Blazers will be doing a play day a the 7 Mile ORV Area on Sunday. May 30th; meet in the parking lot around 10 AM.
Nothing specific planned, just some wheelin'. Trying to get some newbies to come out and learn more about their 4x4.
