If you are an Oregon resident, you need a two year permit. If you live in another state that allows Oregonians to use your state's trails without a permit, or if you have a valid off road permit for your state and your state recognizes Oregon's permit as valid, you don't need to buy an Oregon permit. Or, at least that is how I understand the regulations.

Short answer? Yes.
Long answer?
"An ATV/OHV operating permit that is issued in another state shall be honored in the State of Oregon if the issusing state also honors an Oregon ATV operating permit. The ATV must have a resident state ATV/OHV operating permit or a State of Oregon ATV operating permit to operate the ATV on designated ATV areas. A State of Oregon ATV operating permit may be issued for all terrain vehicles owned by a resident of another state that does not have a permitting program. For a list of states that have reciprocity with Oregon, please visit the Reciprocity Information Page."

Permits are roughly 10 bucks for 2 years and all the revenue funds ATV programs (including Virtue Flat) through a grant distribution process.

I've got the weekend on the calendar but won't know if I can make it or not until probably the day or two before. (Long story.) I'll be there if I can, and will be running some of the mild trails if anyone wants to tag along. There will be trail maps available at the staging area, and I know some of the guys from L4J that are planning on being there the same weekend know the area well also and will be happy to help.

I know VF like my driveway, and Baker City too, so if anyone has any questions just ask.

WOW....didn't know that with the OHV permit. I thought that if you had a highway licensed vehicle you didn't need one (road my V-STrom that way and was apparently a criminal). I guess I will buy one before the big day to keep myself out of trouble.

I am interested in the easier trails on this first outting as I am not interested in breaking something. I have never disco'd (sorry...I only rock and roll), so that will be a new experience for me. I used to air down on the Oregon Coast to get people unstuck, but have not really done that either (just bought a ViAir compressor last month). So this will be a lot of firsts for me in the 4-wheeling department.

I'm getting one on my JK, just like my other Jeeps have had.
I'm almost sure I'm going now. Plenty to do between now and then.

You guys are convincing me I need to be there. I have not wheeled my JK yet but I still have the same flat fender since 1969 before most of you were born.

Flat fender has Ford 302, winch, cage, lockers. It has been on the Rubicon Trail, Sierra Trek and most Eastern Washington trails.

I will probably have to get my permit Saturday morning.

What CB channel will you be using?

I don't know if you "need" to be there but I'm sure you want to be there! Um.. not sure which channel? I think mine is on channel 7 right now.

My lovely bride and I are planning on staying at the Best Western Friday night, doing Pizza Hut for dinner if anyone wants to join us. We will likely get there around 7 or 7:30 (leaving after work) I am guessing. Channel 7 works fine to talk to each other I think, so I will keep tuned to that on Saturday.

If you decide to join us at Pizza Hut.....look for the Yellow T-Shirt (I wanted a Yellow JK, settled for Black).

Thumbs up Jk is going the YJ is staying home.

Ok, after some hard thinking I'm taking the JK over my YJ.. I think this might be a trend in my future wheelin' will see... It will be nice add to another Jk to the growing list of Jk's going... I know my Jk isn't half the off roading vehicle my YJ is but I'm not as young as I use to be either...lol We usually use channel 4 when traveling sometimes other wheelers chime in when they see a group traveling... It's kind've the standard 4x4 channel. If the chatter becomes to much we can always change to another channel.

Anybody, coming through the Columbia river gorge I-84 to get there maybe we can meet up... And convoy. I'm leaving early Friday as well.

I was kinda thinking of driving through Central Oregon to Baker City, but I-84 should be the faster way to go. Will have to coordinate with GrassSeedJK as to the route. Maybe we can try to caravan with you on the way over and I can take my time going back over secondary roads. I finally got a CB, but haven't got it installed yet -- just mounted the antenna and ran the coax, so I guess I'd better get with the program.
