Crazy indeed. I wonder if someone did not monitor trucks above weight limit or did not do proper maintenance. Bridges don't simply fall like that.

I just hope no one got seriously injured.

They are saying the state of Washington actually deemed the bridge unsat along with over 100 other bridges In the state. I hope they have more info soon and I hope they saved everyone who went into the river :/

Correction: functionally obsolete, not unsat... It scored 57.5/100 scary to think about the other bridges I'm the area

Just read an article on Yahoo, said that there is 200 bridges in the state of WA that have a lower rating than that bridge. Scary to think about.

Wow definitely scary news. Glad to hear the folks in the hospital are in stable condition. Hopefully there is no one else.

In that last report, the one witness says he saw the whip in the flag car hitting the bridge supports. Why wouldn't they stop the oversize load immediately and do something different? I understand stopping that big of a truck on a bridge is prolly a bad idea and would take quite awhile to try to back it off the way it came. But, that seems like a better idea than just hitting the bridge supports.

Unless you wanted to bring the bridge down?

I can't imagine sitting on the top of my car waiting for rescue.

Back in 2010 Congress stopped a plan for infrastructure improvement but approved the rebuilding if Iraq. Just makes you go hmmmm?!?!

This is litterally in my works back yard... I am soooo thankful that nobody died... I am looking forward to watching them remove the bridge from the river. The cops and news crews are everywhere. I used to travel the bridge 2 times a day 5 days a week. Now it takes an extra 50 minutes going the long way around. But its OK as long as I am cruisin in my JK. Pretty drive on HWY9...

I'm really glad there were no fatalities. That could have ended really, REALLY poorly.

My political $0.02... At some point the focus will need to turn to reinvesting in our nation. So much of our infrastructure is in sad shape--it's stuff everybody needs, but that nobody wants to pay for. It's going to be a tough sell and an even tougher debate.
