Sunday the 30th. Swap meet and Evans
It was a "cut through" on lower 520. The normal trail zig zags through the trees and there was a line that cut the corner up through some downed trees and up a rock face. The last obstacle of the cut through is an up hill, off camber, right turn around a tree. It was pretty tight. With my passenger rear tire in the hole of the root system, my mirror, folded in, was resting against the tree. I tried to just crawl it but I was hung up good enough that a slow crawl wouldn't get it done. So I figured I'll just bump it up. I figured when the rear tire climbed the root it would push the top of the jeep away from the tree. Well what I didn't see was the root my passenger tire was stuck in the hole of turned and went under the drivers rear tire too. Well when I "bumped" it to climb the root it climbed drivers side first and smacked the top before the passenger tire climbed the root. Once the passenger side got on top of the root I had a foot of clearance and drove through the rest of the obstacle easy enough.
That's what I get for telling my wife. "Oh, we're just gonna run 311 and 520. It will be an easy day just playing in the woods."

It's all a bit of challenge for my 4DR. I need to pull out te map and see if I can figure out where exacly that is. I have pics of the section of 197 that we could not get a 2DR up. I will post them up in a sec...

Here is a GPS map image from a previous trip to Evans. I've marked the corner where I got hung up and I've marked where 520 starts at the campground and where it intersects with 198.

I took 4 crappy cell phone pic's and here they are......

Kevlar MTR's at 10 psi like to wrap themselves around wood.
And the aftermath of picking the "hard" line

Well I didn't escape without damage either. The loud squeaking noise that was coming and going well that turned out to be my u-joint on my rear drive shaft. Everything was fine till today when I noticed a bad vibration that was getting worse. I got under the Jeep and spotted the bad u-joint, I picked up a new one from Napa this evening and will be replacing it tomorrow morning. I'll keep you guys posted.
