Cool, welcome. I'm originally from Kansas too.

Only places I've been down around Rainier are Evan's Creek, Naches Wagon Trail and Raven's Roost. There are a lot of trails down around Naches/Raven's Roost. Some pics:

I personally love the Naches trail as there is tons of camping in the area and the trail is fun and somewhat challenging, but not too difficult that you'll worry about not making it out. Most stock vehicles can make it with a little work. Great scenery too.

Default EJS in Moab and Oregon Dunes for April

My plans are very preliminary, but is anyone planning to go to EJS in Moab?

I am considering grabbing a couple friends and doing a road trip over about 9 days. Hitting the Oregon Dunes for a day or two on the way to EJS in Moab for a couple to 3 days, then meeting some friends in Vegas for 2-3 days over the Easter weekend before heading back Easter day.

I don't see a "Northwest" group on the EJS planning, so thought I would throw it out there. Technically, I'm not really "doing" EJS, but thought I could swing in for 2-3 days and hit some trails.

If anyone might be going the same direction and wants to caravan on the way down (or possibly on the way back), I might be doing a trip like this this.

Just throwing it out there. A lot depends on if a friend or two can join me, but I have some interest. So if anyone else might want to do all or part of this road trip with us, let me know.

I'm thinking I want to go. I haven't got my JK to the point (need bigger tires and a little lift) where it would be worth it at this point, but if time and finances permit, I'll be going for the week.

meljr, just keep me in the loop as you decide. If it makes any difference, I'm running a 2007 X. Rubi rims and tires but no lift. PureJeep bumpers, but only nerf bars (my wife needs the step as she is only 5'1", and it is possible Rampage will have their retractable rocker out by then. But until they do, I am stuck with the nerf bars).

The bottom line is that I have a few things, but I am FAR from hardcore. I'm sure I am plenty equipped for the dunes (isn't any 4WD?), and do not plan to do anything past moderate in Moab. I am about enjoying the outdoors and scenery. I am NOT interested in doing anything that would subject my DD to significant damage and/or time in the shop.

Not sure if any of that matters to you or anyone else interested in this or a similar trip, but I mention it as I would hope that you may wish to join us even if you don't get all the upgrades you want in time.

My ego is plenty comfortable just enjoying a good road trip, and if need be, watching those with more experience or better equipped vehicles in more difficult terrain. So if this helps get anyone else off the fence, please just recognize that I'm probably at the lower end in terms of equipment and experience than many others in the forum.

Knowing how to have a good time, however, my friends and I are probably top notch.

Not alone. There are several JK's in Vancouver. Two lifted silver four doors running around, one being mine.

Mel,

You can do Moab nicely without a lot done to your Jeep. We rented last year and the first rig was a 06 model with 4 banger and no lift or tires. Granted we didn't do the difficult trails, but the place is so gorgeous....who cares. We had a 2.5 BB with 33" and spacers on a JK for two days, and that thing got around places I am not bold enough to do much more of in my daily driver.

Jeff and Hoovis,

I'm still wanting to go to Moab this April for the goings on and to meet a lot of the JK-Forum folks in person. Just a few things to work out before I know if it will happen. Your advice and encouragement are well taken. Thanks.

When you attend Moab for the Easter Safari is it wilderness camping or is there campgrounds or motels near enough?

I've never been, but I think there is everything from camping to hotels. However, EJS will be pretty booked up already, so I'm guessing the best option is to try to find something soon or to rent an extra room from someone on this forum.
