Crater Lake is beautiful; we visited just last summer. But Big Bend is my number two. Combine it with adjacent Big Bend Ranch State Park and there are a million unfenced acres, much of it with four wheel trails. Chisos Mountains and Basin offers coolness during the hot summers. And, if you decide to just go out there by yourself to retreat from the world, the park service asks that you leave a set of bootprints and gear description so that when they find your body they know who you were. I have a shirt from there that says: "Out here you're nobody. Perfect." You've just gotta love a place like that!
