My space post was done strictly in humor. I happen to agree with your point about posting other's photos. I dont think anyone really thought for a moment I actually took that picture with my new telephoto lens.

I, as other's have said, am really more interested in seeing members photos also. Again, it was only a joke. Maybe poor timing, but most of my jokes are.

Your images are first rate and I thank you for sharing them. I would like to meet up with you sometime in a remote location, cameras on tripods, enjoying a sunrise.

I am heading to Hood River, Oregon this weekend to photograph the orchards in bloom.

Take care
Thanks John. I suspect we'd enjoy that sunrise as photographers do checking light levels, angles, ISO settings and eventually being blown away by nature and remembering at the last moment to hit the shutter release button.

A little story from me. I don't tell them often but I think this is fitting.

This is my most stolen image. I have no intent to sell it. If anyone asks I'll probably give them limited rights to use it. If a person were to run a google search for grebes they'd find it near the top. I go after several people each week that have used it on their blogs or forum posts without permission. Everyone that I have contacted has either removed the image or posted a photo credit. Every person I have contacted has apologized and I believe they did not know they had done anything wrong. I put the title and copyright on the image against my personal taste because it is mine and want to keep it.

It is a simple image but has a story. I spent months planning the shot. I figured the location, the time and the method. I packed my gear in 20" zip-lock bags to hold over my head in case I fell while wading chest deep in muck. I spent hours in the bug infested marsh watching these magnificent creatures doing absolutely nothing. I found my opportunity and took the shot. I knew immediately I had what I was after and went home.

No one knows the work involved and no one posts the story behind the image. When I see my image of a Western Grebe and Chick mislabeled on some uneducated individuals myspace page I am disappointed. My personality is in that image. My passion is in that image. My time is in that image. I put it on the web to show the world my view of the world and some punk took that right from me.

Abridged Version -- There is a story behind everything.

Regards,
Shon

More great photos from everyone--super thread! I'm very active with Scouting, and have a lot of photos from those endeavors. Here are a few of my favorites, which I've made into posters:

For whatever reason, I took this the wrong way. My panties were in a twist and I apologize.

Awesome stuff Mark!!

I was never much of a scout - only one or two entry level merit badges. You sure do give it life and respect in those images.

Truthfully it was pretty funny. I was giving some thought to posting my best space image but I had to give myself an F- compared to yours. No matter how hard I squint I can't see that damned flagpole!

What the hell, here's mine anyway. I didn't have the option of gluing my camera to the Hubble so I just pointed it up and hoped for the best. (Taken with Canon 20D, 400 5.6L and 1.4x Teleconverter - tripod mounted with mirror lockup/remote release - I cropped 30% or so from the edges, a little USM and levels adjustment) We're going to try some real telescope images later this year.
