Looking to move to Las Vegas
So within one year I have every intention to move from northern Illinois and get a place in Las Vegas. Many reasons but school, and a huge change of environment are the two big factors. Here are my questions. For those of you do live in or around Las Vegas any certain areas that you recommend to live in? I am a medium income person now, so I hope that continues. I doubt I will have a job before I leave, but only because no one will give me an interview unless I live closer. Second question, are there numerous (legal) places to trail ride out there? I have done some reading but I wanted to ask first hand. The closest one to me is about a two hour ride, and then everything else is four + hours. I ask you guys and gals this because I assume most jeep owners are smart, level headed/common sense type people and I need good advice. Thanks in advance!

Nevada is struggling in the job department, with Vegas suffering more than Reno (where I live.) My only suggestion would be to make sure there are available jobs before making the move. As far as wheeling goes, I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised by how close you are to trails. Nevada is an outdoor playground and, unlike California, the vast majority of it is accessible by motorized vehicles.

I moved to Vegas a little over a year ago, found a job in 3 days. I have moved to a decent place on the outskits of Henderson. There are many nice areas here as well as some bad ones. The location you move to would depend on your job location. Its a pain in the ass to drive across town. 30 min lol.
As far as wheeling goes its local and abundant. Look us up when you get here and we will hook you up.

Thanks for the decent info guys. I see plenty of jobs I could apply for that I am qualfified for (LE, and Security) but I will keep applying before and after I move out there. My degree is pretty specific so other than Security I doubt I could find a job that will pay the 2k a month I need to pay my bills. My plan is to save up anywhere from 10k to 15k and just bring the essentials until I find a place (ie. blow up mattress, small tv, my jeep). With that I should be able to live without a job for 4-6 months. Hopefully by then I should be able to find a decent job. Yes, I plan to go to UNLV after I get my one year of residency so I don't have to pay out of state tution.
I have only checked out a few places such as the badlands, but if I can make this Vegas area move possible I will be doing A LOT more trail exploring!

If you're looking for a change of scenery from Illinois, this is it. You really can't get much more of a polar opposite. You have to realize you'll miss the culture and food, otherwise I personally have only positives to describe it here. If you now live anywhere near the city your cost of living will decrease and traffic here is much lighter than Chicago. Back there it used to take me 45 mins to an hour to go 11 miles to work, here it's taking me 20 mins to go the same distance. My personal preference for living would be anywhere south or west of the 215, like I said though that's just preference. As far as work is concerned, obviously the economy sucks, but you're already a head of most people because it sounds like you have a degree. Good luck.

I live about 45min West of the City now, Rockford? I will check out places in that area as a starting point. I am sure I will miss the culture once I see what the Vegas area has for culture. I won't miss the crappy winters though! I plan to head out there in the middle of next year and visit apartments, the college and just take in the city and really get a good look at it. Yup, have a two year Criminal Justice degree. I work Security at a large inner city hospital, and am also a part-time cop. I would hope there is something out there for me!

That would be great, I have been keeping an eye on their testing dates. Joining a Jeep group out there would be a great way to meet new friends as I will not know a single person
