Question NV laws for weapons in vehicles???

I may be able to get my hands on a Taurus Judge soon and really only want it for carrying in the Jeep when on the trail. Home protection is nice too though with all the doors getting kicked in these days.

My friends with CC permits say that the vehicle is considered an extension of your home and you can carry a firearm anywhere within the vehicle. I would probably get a saddle holster for the console and keep it in plain sight just in case I ever got pulled over.

What's the scoop on vehicle requirements/restrictions?

How does this apply to knives? I usually keep a fixed blade camping knife in the storage bin in the back. My current one is an 8" blade. Is that considered concealed?

Gets tricky when you start talking about that, because when I take my camping gear out, I have a machete, and hatchet in the bin too.

If I were you, Id just get a ccw anyway reguardless of the fine details of the law. First of all if you have it it wouldn't be arguable that your allowed to have it. It would show the cop that you have already had a background check and your weren't found to be a felon or have any mental isssues. Also before you even get pulled over the cop might know you have the ccw just by running your tags. Not sure if it would come up, but it would less of a surprise. Plus, anyone who carries a firearm should go through the training to be able to use it. It's not hard and you might learn something. Just my opinoin.

I have been told by every gun store that your vehicle is treated as your home, you can carry what you like. Just let the officer know that you have a weapon if you are pulled over and you'll be fine. This does not apply to North Las Vegas or Boulder City. Don't carry in these two cities.

Charlton Heston...

"Here's my credo. There are no good guns, There are no bad guns. A gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a good man is no threat to anyone, except bad people."

Get your CCW.. it just makes it really easy AND around here (southern utah) it's like a get out of tickets free card. I swear I have been stopped 3 times since I got mine (all minor infractions) every time I have been carrying, all 3 times I was let got with a verbal warning only. I have also heard the same story from SEVERAL people around here.

Nice Choice on the Judge. I love mine. the original point and shoot..

Apart from being trained by the best instructors on the globe in the use of an M-16 A2 (expert), M249 SAW, M203, M67, and M-72 LAW, I've never fired a hand gun. I already have the contact info for a guy who does local training.

I suppose the CCW permit doesn't hurt to apply. Worst they can do is deny it. I doubt I would every carry concealed in Vegas....Metro cops get a little jumpy I think...then the permit holders end up in the news and obituaries.

To answer your original question - you can have a loaded handgun anywhere in your vehicle, so long as it isn't concealed on your person (unless you have a CCW).

For training, you should look into some of the newer training that American Shooters is rolling out. I took a class recently using simunition rounds, and it was an awesome learning experience.

For you comment about Metro - cops don't get trigger happy with CCWs. There are a lot of encounters with CCW permit holders every day by Metro. Only 1 has ended with the person getting shot, and that was a literal "perfect storm" of events to create that outcome.

Was checking out American Shooters site. Good info. Thanks.

And I don't mean to generalize with metro....I just don't see me every carrying on my person for any reason. In the Jeep or in my house is fine with me. Might take the CCW training anyway.

So, part 2 of my original question...I assume there is no law for knife carried in the vehicle, as long as it's not concealed on your person also?

I'm not really too sure on knives. I do know that NRS is EXTREMELY vague on them. I should also clarify that for guns, some municiplities (i.e. North Las Vegas) have city ordinances against having loaded firearms in the vehicle. While they seem like they should be against state law, it hasn't been struck down yet, so it's still enforced.

shooters is ok, you can get a private lesson and be out the door in an hour with your ccw (paperwork). i like the "perfect storm" comment, you point a gun at metro and they will shoot you. i think a 3" or 3.5" blade is ok (call bass pro shop). ask roger about the time he took his knife to the dmv!
