Default Is it me or could Jeep get away with ...

Running say 4:88's on the Rubicon when equiped with an auto trans and this enemic engine? I mean hell I keep O.D off when highway driving as O.D drops to 1700 (Diesel Territory) RPM @ 55 and renders power useless.

I do plan on an engine swap @ some point (Not now as the Jeep has only 1700 miles on it) but 4:56 or even 4:88 sounds fair with the 32's and an auto.

[Flame Suit on] I have searched [/flame suit] and remember a while ago reading someone using a higher ratio when stock. I plan on 35's and a 4" Long arm down the road but sure would like to get squared up gear wise first.

Default Agreed.

I agree! I just regeared to 5.13s. There are other issues they could have done better with such as the low Evap Cannister and the plastic busings on your shifter cables.

What size rubber are you running? Hell if I can get away with 5:13's while stock for a while then I am so all over that.

I'm running 33s right now and I'm going up to 35s in the not too distant future. I've been wanting to regear for some time now and have decided that's what my next mod will be. From what I've read on all the forums I've decided to go with 5:13s after originally planning on 4:88s. It'll probably be the end of the summer before I do it, but the lack of power kills me.

My main beef is maintaining speed on the interstate, but have noticed a lack of power in 4hi as well. I know I'll be miserable if I go to 35s before regearing!

Flame on Bubba! I hate gear threads and like many old timers usually won't even look at them. Sometimes I just get stupid. Yes 5.13's on 32's'll work fine. You may be running 100 rpm or so higher. BFD! A shitload of people will point you to some table or another, but I drove that combo for a few days and I guarantee you'll never think about turning off your OD again. It's the best combo with 33's and works okay with the 35's.

Default Re-Gearing

About 6 months after I got my new 35" Goodyear MT/R's w/Kevlar, I upgraded
my gears to "G2" brand 4.88's, front and rear, and it is helping. I don't go offroad that much, and I don't pull any trailers, it's mostly my DD, or I would have gone with 5.13's, but I love my 4.88's

Jeep install 3.21/4.10 gears to meet EPA fleet mileage requirements. They'd have to sell *less* Rubicons if they upped the ratio and lowered their hwy MPG rating. Nobody wants that.

100 RPm? Daz it? Falk then 5:29's it is!

I hear ya on the Gear Thread thing. Hell it is like "Boost" threads in the Diesel world

TheKid25, Gears don't make power ... they just move the miserable power we have to a better spot And I SO hear you on the interstate issue. If I hit the O.D button it is like pressing pause on the life remote and I swear I hear birds and other woodland creatures laugh and snicker and call me a dumbass the minute I make that mistake of going into overdrive

If theese things had decent engines in them I am certain we have enough gearing to chase down a Bugatti Veyron

I'm running factory rubicon gears with 35s and it does alright on the highway. We don't have any big mountains but it does fine on the big rolling hills
