Paint question
I'm getting a set of Rugged Ridge Mirror relocation brackets. They are gloss black. I would like them to be flat black. Will prepping the existing paint with a Scotch Brite pad before applying aerosol automotive paint be enough? What's the best way to do this. Thanks for any budget minded help.
Scuffing the surface of the existing paint is all the prep you'll need if it's in good shape, which it is since it's new. I'd do it with a fine grit sand paper to get the best adhesion for the new paint layer.
I painted my windshield light mounts that were also powder coated black. I sanded and then did a few coats of red and few coats of clear sanding in between and buffing the final coat as well. I am happy with the final product, but I wish I had primed them first though because it has chipped a little underneath (can't be seen without some serious inspection). Put the extra work in initially and you will be happier in the long run, better to do it right the first time.
Good luck and post some pics when you're done, I'm thinking about doing this one too.
