Default Hi temp paint for diff cover?

Is high temp paint needed for diff covers? I know they get hot but can you use "regular" primer and paint? Or do I need engine enamel?

Thanks.

Regular paint is fine, they don't get that hot.

I used gloss black rustoleum and it works great. I used gloss black high temp paint on my exhaust. My underbody looks better than new!

Agreed. Don't worry about spending too much on the paint, as it will likely get scraped off by rocks anyway.

I painted mine with factory primer and then factory Red. No issues. I had dented my stock rear plate, ordered another cover plate and primed and painted, then let cure for a month before installing. Wanted the ARB covers, but that will have to wait on funding.

I cleaned mine with carb cleaner and a couple of rag to get off the oil that was left over from the manufacturing. Then two coats of primer and then a couple of coats of the desired color and let dry for another day and install. No need to get anything fancy, just pick it up at any auto parts store.

I have a green unlimited and decided the ARB diff covers were the best but the red just would not work. That red paint wouldn't come off in my blast cabinet so I had to go to the Home Depot and pick up a gallon of Jasco paint stripper. What a mess! After 3 applications and another trip to the blast cabinet I finally had it stripped down to my satisfaction. I painted them with High Temp flat black. Not that the diff gets very hot, it's just what I had laying around. They turned out awesome. ARB makes a bad ass cover but they really should offer them in black.

Man I am totally wanting to do this too. I have ARB lockers and I have a blacked out look on my jeep. I like the yellow Old Man Emu shocks and want to keep that color only under my jeep. With the yellow shocks and red covers on a blacked out jeep it looks like to much and it also the look reminds me if McDonalds. It I wanted to paint over the ARB LOCKERS do I have to strip the paint first?
